Africa

  • Kenya – Kenyan tea is characteristic for its intense, dark infusion with a strong and rich aroma. Largest crops are grown between 1500 and 2750 metres above sea level, which results in a high quality of tea.
  • Cameroon – three plantations are located here, producing various kinds of high quality tea.
  • Malawi – tea from this region is mostly used in mixes.
  • Tanzania – tea is similar to Ceylon tea, but its quality is varying, depending on the altitude and method of picking.
  • South Africa – black tea and the increasingly popular red tea – rooibos.

Indian Peninsula

  • Assam – largest tea producing region in the world. Classic kinds of tea originate from here, with an intense infusion and a slightly sweet flavour. These teas are also characteristic for their strong and saturated colour.
  • Darjeeling – a real star in the world of tea, its subtle flavour and unique aroma is achieved thanks to a combination of a cool and misty climate, the lie of the land, altitude, precipitation as well as quality of the soil and the air. Tea is collected here in various times of the year, which results in significantly different tastes.
    First Flush – greenish leaves with a more spicy, aromatic infusion,
    Second Flush – tea with a delicate, more mature and fuller flavour, considered the best kind of Darjeeling tea,
    In-Between – blend of the spicy infusion from the first flush with the mature taste from the second flush.
  • Nilgiri – tea grown here produces a refreshing infusion with a silky flavour. Second largest tea growing region after Assam.
  • Dooars – a small region which produces strong teas with an intense infusion.
  • Sikkim – this small region produces tea similar to Darjeeling, but stronger and a more distinct aroma.
  • Terai – tea grown here produces a rich infusion, saturated colour and slightly spicy taste.
  • Travancore – tea grown in this region is reminiscent of Ceylon tea, characterized by a strong infusion and intense colour.
  • Sri Lanka – all kinds of tea are produced here. Low crops – strong and dark, usually used in mixes; medium altitude crops – teas with a rich, copper red infusion; high altitude crops – high quality infusions with a golden colour.


 

Far East

  • China – here we can find the largest diversity of highest quality tea in the world, including white, green, red, Oolong, tea bricks and flavoured tea.
  • Indonesia – Indonesian tea produces a light and slightly sweet infusion, mainly used in mixes.
  • Japan – only green tea is produced here. Sencha, Gyokuro and Houjicha are teas with delicate and narrow leaves; Tencha tea is cut up into very small pieces, and Matcha is a powdered tea, whisked in water using a special bamboo whisk, in order to create a frothed beverage.
  • Taiwan – teas produced here include: classic black, green and Oolong. The last one in Taiwan's specialty.

OTHER COUNTRIES WHICH PRODUCE TEA

South America

  • Argentina, Brazil – black tea, mostly used in mixes.
  • Equator – black tea is produced here, mainly for export to USA.
  • Peru – black tea is grown in two plantations

Europe

  • Azores – black tea, mainly sold to tourists visiting the islands.
